Egyptian Ties?

I always watch the encore episodes because of the notes they post at the bottom of the screen.

Last week vikingrunning responded to my March 4 Episode post and gave some interesting tidbits, the first of which is about the four-toed statue being ancient Egyptian and holding an ankh. The second is about an Egyptian god named Horus who had the head of a falcon and held an ankh. He also reminded us that we've seen Egyptian hieroglyphics on the island before in the hatch and on the temple.

When I watched the encore tonight, I put two and two together that the pendant that Amy saves from Paul's neck, is an ankh - Egyptian symbol of eternal life. Later in the episode, Horace finds the ankh in Amy's drawer, the same night that their son is born. Horace is now in possession of the ankh.

The encore also lets us know that the countdown symbols used in the hatch were Egyptian symbols.

I don't know what all of this means, but I do know that Richard Alpert looks Egyptian to me.

With the ankh being the Egyptian symbol of eternal life, it might make sense that history is repeating itself over and over. People dieing and suddenly being alive and well or a young child all over again. Or "extras" filling in the gaps of history that would otherwise be LOST in the recurring cycle.

  1. By the way, Horace is now in possession of the ankh that used to be Paul's. We know nothing about Paul, except that the Others assassinated him and that Amy claims that she was married to him. (she didn't seem real upset that her husband was just shot. I think she seemed more upset about the truce.)

Anyway, Horace [Horus] gained possession of the ankh on the same night that his son was born, who's name we don't know.
